Second birthdays are an absolute time for celebration. You and your child have made it 730 days to get to this point! You will probably have noticed that your child is able to express their wants and disllikes more astutely as the year has progressed. Keep this in mind as the day approaches!
Here are some tips we have gathered from the BEST two-year-old celebrations we have seen. (And we've seen A LOT!)
Tactile Activities
Organized games aren't the most effective choice for a two-year-old...but little ones LOVE to get their hands into neat textures! Set up a sand station, a water station and an art station. Each of these can be monitored by a relative or friend...or monitored by each parent. You can be sure that parents are staying close to their little ones at this age!
Bite-Size Food
Food that can be handled by a two-year-old without a spoon or a fork is a great way to let them express their new independence. Bite-size cupcakes, fruit pieces, goldfish crackers - anything they can handle and chew safely can be a source of fun for these little ones.
Free-Range Fun
It's great if you have a safe play area set up for the little ones to explore. blocks, things that make noise and other toddlers are their favorites! But be careful to keep your child's toys tucked away. They probably haven't learned about sharing yet, and this age can be posessive over toys. That being said - open gifts AFTER the party and send sweet thank you notes to the guests. If your guests are also two, they may not understand why they have to give a toy away.
Bubbles
We talked about this in the first birthday tip article, but little ones LOVE BUBBLES. We have a show called Bubbles with Bernadette that is popular with daycares and young birthday parties. If there are older children invited to your child's birthday - no worries! 4-8 year olds love this show, too!
Keep It Short
The maximum time for a toddler party is about two hours. This helps reduce melt-down opportunities due to fatigue.
